The new Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF) Headquarters and Multi-tenant Commercial Building is spatially divided to house the OSSTF/FEESO offices as well as two floors of leasable tenant space. The 3-storey, 124,000 sq. ft. mass timber project is joined by a central atrium and the building will offer abundant outside views, light, openness, and numerous opportunities for spontaneous interactions between the OSSTF staff and tenants.

Working in collaboration with Moriyama Teshima Architects, Fast + Epp developed an elegant glulam post and beam system which is capped with a CLT floor plate complete with concrete topping. Careful consideration was given to the detailing of connections allowing the programming to include exposed structure throughout – including special consideration of fire performance in conjunction with CHM Fire Consultants Ltd which allowed for an alternate solution to the Ontario Building Code for fire resistance ratings.

Designed to the highest environmental standards, the OSSTF’s new headquarters is built on a foundation of social, environmental and financial sustainability.

Construction is currently well under way with the MTC solutions MEGANT connections at the girders and purlins working wonderfully well, and the steel pedestals and braced frame nodes are coming together without a hitch.
