Located on the waterfront in West Vancouver, Bellevue Park Residence is an 8000 square foot home, with modern, clean lines, an open concept layout, and large windows, maximizing views to the South across Burrard Inlet towards Jericho Beach and Spanish Banks. A light, floating stair case leads to an upper bridged walkway through to the master suite.

The owners were seeking an open concept home that would maximize light and views, keeping it feeling light, bright and airy. Fast + Epp decided to use steel braced frames, in lieu of a shear wall system, to minimize the number of opaque walls in the space. Stainless steel exposed braces float in front of select windows as a feature, moving the eye directly out across the water.

In keeping with an “airy” and bright feel, the floating stairs lead to a catwalk that is less than 4” thick and hung from the ceiling with ¼” cables. The stairs are a modern take on the common “centre stringer,” with a cranked flat plate, following the rise and run.

In addition, slung doors are supported along steel beam lines on the South wall, allowing the doors to fully open in the summer months.

Bellevue Park house ultimately achieved the owner’s desires for an open and modern waterfront home, where they can entertain family on the main floor, and enjoy views and tranquility from the master suite on the top floor.
