USA Project Receives First Award


ArenaStageThe Washington Building Congress has recognized Fast + Epp with the Craftsmanship Award for Structural Steel Framing at the 54th Annual Craftsmanship Awards for the firm's work on the landmark Arena Stage at the Mead Centre for American Theater project in Washington, DC.

Fast + Epp is pleased to have been structural engineers on the Arena Stage Theater, designed by Vancouver's own Bing Thom Architects. We would further like to congratulate Bing Thom Architects on winning the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada's Architectural Firm Award for 2010.

Grand Opening of Princeton Bridge of Dreams


Bridge-of-DreamsPrinceton's new bridge officially opened April 15, 2010, on the 95th anniversary of the opening of the historic original Kettle Valley Railroad Bridge of Dreams.

The new 200-foot, hybrid wood-steel, covered double-span footbridge was a collaboration between Fast + Epp and affiliated design-build company StructureCraft Builders Inc. It was constructed on top of the existing piers of the Old Kettle Valley Railway Bridge, alongside the steel bridge for vehicular traffic over the Tullameen River.

Olympic Oval Receives Seventh Award


The Richmond Olympic Oval Roof Structure was awarded the Award of Excellence in the 'Buildings' category at the Consulting Engineers of British Columbia 2010 Awards for Engineering Excellence on April 24, 2010. The award marks Fast + Epp's 7th for the Oval roof structural engineering.

Partner Elected to SEABC Board


Fast + Epp Partner Paul Fast is honoured to have been elected to the Structural Engineers Association of British Columbia's Board of Directors for 2010.

As part of his election statement, Paul stated he aspires to join the SEABC in "encouraging our young engineers to strive for excellence and creativity amidst the rigor of calculations and learning building codes."

Paul has also recently been appointed to a three-year term on the Board of Advisors for the National Research Council of Canada – Institute for Research in Construction.

2010 WoodWORKS! Awards Announced


KINGSWAY 6s - photo credit to Mathias FastFast + Epp is pleased to announce that the Kingsway Pedestrian Bridge was honoured with the Canadian Wood Council's BC Wood Design Award in the Engineer category.
 
Fast + Epp would also like to offer its congratulations to Hughes Condon Marler Architects, who received the CWC BC Wood Design Architect Award for the Whistler Public Library, and to KMBR Architects Planners Inc., who received the CWC BC Wood Design Award in Institutional Wood Design for Projects Under $10 million for Crawford Bay School.

Fast + Epp is proud to have collaborated as structural engineers on these projects.

Fast + Epp Announces New UBC Scholarship


The firm is pleased to announce a new scholarship of $1,500 to be awarded to UBC engineering and architectural students in alternating years who exhibit an interest in architectural structures and structural design.

Awards will be made on the recommendation of the relevant department at UBC, and applications will therefore not be accepted by Fast + Epp directly.

Our firm has also been involved in sponsoring the recently-instituted Chair in Wood Building & Design at UBC, established to create a focus of research and development at UBC around wood building, design, and construction.
