Fast + Epp participated in the structural design of two distinct public art pieces. The first – “Moving Surfaces” – is an 11m-tall floating screen of 60 vertical stainless steel shapes, which bend and fold. Inspired by a timeless journey along the Rideau Canal, this work references the movement of water. Meanwhile, the second work is a 12m-high stone clad “Beacon” water sculpture, in the form of a contemporary obelisk.
The pieces were scaled and oriented to be seen and experienced from multiple viewpoints and levels of engagement – considerable efforts were taken to ensure the works were monumental in scale, yet still accessible.
