The structural frames of the pavilion are angled to respond to the natural slope of the site, while also directing attention westward toward the view. Constructed using heavy glulam timber, the exterior has been left exposed, while the interior is minimally clad in cedar slats, which serve to provide shade, privacy, and at the same time transparency.

The connections are minimally exposed to limit the distraction from the timber elements, and are carefully crafted to limit degradation from the weather. The foundations utilize simple screw piles to mitigate movement in Calgary’s harsh climate.

This pavilion will serve as a community hub throughout the seasons, offering venue space for outdoor events, and functioning as an everyday shelter and gathering place.
