Fast + Epp’s role included the business case feasibility studies, indicative design, and owners’ compliance representation.  We developed a structural solution for a new tower as well as an upgrade and expansion to the existing Support Facilities Building. The design intent promotes future flexibility and resilience of the Hospital Campus, while allowing continuous operation of the Hospital throughout the renewal project.

The indicative design calls for seismic upgrading of the Support Facilities Building, to bring the building closer in line with modern seismic design requirements. Performance-based seismic design and FEMA P-58 was included to bolster the post-disaster resiliency of the hospital. Intelligent upgrades of existing buildings is in line with the projects’ carbon smart goals, and delivers value to the City of Burnaby.
