Stanley A. Milner Library receives 2020 Excellence Award from the NCSEA

September 16, 2020

The Stanley A. Milner Library project in Edmonton, Alberta has just been selected as one of the award winners for the 2020 Excellence in Structural Engineering Awards by the National Council of Structural Engineers Associations (NCSEA).

Located in the civic centre of Edmonton, Alberta, the newly expanded and rejuvenated Library serves as a multi-purpose facility for the local community. Fundamental to the library’s new identity was the transformation of the existing monolithic concrete façade into a strong architectural expression, achieved by cantilevering a complex truss system from the existing structure.

Other prominent features included an upgraded lateral system, a visually lightweight contiguous ramp serving also serving as a quiet reading area, and the creation of enhanced open spaces as compared to the original version. The revitalized library is slated to open in late 2020 to, once again, serve the citizens of Edmonton.

The NCSEA Awards ceremony will take place during the virtual Structural Engineering Summit on Thursday, November 5, 2020.
