Milestone reached for SFU Terry Fox Field Grandstand

April 30, 2020

A major construction milestone for the new Simon Fraser University’s (SFU) Grandstand was reached last week when the final cantilever steel girder was lifted into place. The steel girders will provide support to a CLT “floating” canopy roof cantilevering 16m to provide weather protection and unobstructed views for the spectators below.

The 1,800-seat football stadium will feature amenities such as an accessible concourse, washrooms, broadcast and media facilities, integrated sound system, and booths for VIPs, sponsors, and coaches.

Becoming a new home for Canada’s National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) teams as well as SFU’s football team, the facility will also serve as a space for SFU’s athletic teams and activities, special events, and entertainment.

Construction is anticipated to be completed this summer.
