Kwanlin Dün First Nations Community Hub

November 4, 2019

The new Kwanlin Dün First Nations Community Hub is a new gathering space for Kwanlin Dün First Nation citizens in Whitehorse, Yukon to come together and celebrate their culture and heritage.

The 2,130 square-meter two-storey community hub showcases wood through innovative structural features demonstrated by the glulam “wallums” that fold over at the roof level to become a V-shaped king post truss, in addition to a radial king post truss centered over the heart of the council chambers. Support for the local community also plays an integral part of this project through the selection of materials, such as nail-laminated timber for the roof panels, to be assembled on-site by the local labour force.

Construction for the new community space has started and is expected to be complete by late 2020.
