Paul Fast speaks at Symposium in support of Marcus Wallenberg Prize gala in Stockholm

Paul Fast spoke at the annual half-day Symposium to celebrate and support the Marcus Wallenberg Prize gala on October 7, 2019. The presentation topic was “Harvesting the Maximum Engineering Benefits of Cross-Laminated Timber”.

Paul and Ruth Fast were invited as guests to the gala banquet evening at the Vinterträdgården (Winter Garden) of the Grand Hôtel in Stockholm, witnessing Professor Gerhard Shickhofer from Graz University of Technology receiving the prestigious Marcus Wallenberg Prize diploma from His Majesty the King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden. The prize was awarded in recognition of Gerhard Shickhofer’s groundbreaking research in the development of cross-laminated timber and enablement of its adoption as a building material.

Also in attendance last evening includes Queen Sylvia of Sweden and various representatives from industry, academia and government. Dinner was enjoyed, along with singing by the renowned Swedish Men’s Choir and presentations by other guest speakers.

The Marcus Wallenberg Prize recognizes, encourages and stimulates pathbreaking scientific achievements contributing to broadening knowledge and technical development within fields of importance to forestry and forest industries. Learn more about the Marcus Wallenberg Foundation.
