Construction underway for new Kehewin Cree Nation School
October 7, 2019
Construction is underway for Kehewin Cree Nation School in the south of Bonnyville, Alberta.
A glulam structure has been selected with the choice of wood as a sustainable building material to signify the Indigenous community and its deep connection with nature. The Cree teaching room’s sense of warmth and gathering will be best illustrated through the double-height space of exposed wood structure opening up to a king post truss with curved glulams.
The new K-12 elementary school will include 33,368 square feet of welcoming educational space for the Kehewin Indigenous community.
