Robert offers a unique skill set in the field of structural engineering due to his hands-on experience and practical training – he has worked as a carpenter on residential custom homes and in several fine woodworking shops.
Since joining Fast + Epp in 2013, Robert has developed a sound knowledge of timber engineering, structural steel, and concrete design. He has a particular interest in timber and is an author of several articles for international engineering journals relating to sustainable design and mass timber.
Robert firmly believes in an engineer’s mandate to improve lives at home and abroad. In October 2015, he travelled to Madagascar with Engineering Ministries International to provide structural engineering input on a master plan for a local university campus.
In 2016, Robert received two prestigious awards from the United Kingdom’s Institution of Structural Engineers, including The Young Structural Engineering Professional Award, which is an international recognition of achievement in structural engineering and showcases engineers under 30 who are driving the profession forward.
Robert is a graduate from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Science in Civil Engineering with Distinction, which was completed in conjunction with a 2011 Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology from Camoson College in Victoria, BC.
