The PlusEnergy Modular Exhibit showcased this exciting potential to architects, engineers and the general public, and was erected in Munich and other cities around Germany. Effectively an enlarged version of the 2007 award-winning Solar Decathlon by a team from Technische Universität Darmstadt (which included Fast + Epp’s Jochen Stahl), the exhibit’s sustainable building technologies were able to avoid approximately 1750kg of carbon dioxide emissions in just 156 days.

The building showcased renewable, recycled and natural products, along with its novel lamellar façade, which generates electricity via integrated photovoltaic elements. Triple and quadruple glazed, the façade also featured vacuum insulation and latent heat storage.

For ecological reasons and due to the low weight, the team chose a wooden frame construction with individual steel components to facilitate transport.
