Limberlost Place Wins at 2025 Structural Awards
November 19, 2025
We are honoured to share that Limberlost Place has been recognized by The Institute of Structural Engineers as a 2025 Structural Award Winner. As the first tall timber institutional building in Ontario, it has been celebrated for its cross-academia-industry innovation and for elevating composite mass timber to inspire future building designers.
“A thoughtfully designed and beautifully executed hybrid structure that brings together mass timber and concrete with technical clarity and environmental intent.” – Comment from the judges

This 10-storey structure features an innovative, large span, beamless hybrid system composed of timber-concrete-composite (TCC) slab bands with perpendicular CLT infill panels supported by glulam columns. Extensive testing of this hybrid structure was conducted at the University of British Columbia, where band behaviour was examined to verify its strength, vibration, shear, and connection performance. The valuable insights from this research influenced the final structural design of Limberlost place and has been made open-source to support mass timber innovation within the industry.
Fast + Epp is extremely grateful to receive this prestigious award and would like to show appreciation to the entire team behind this project. This project demonstrates our commitment to advancing sustainability and innovation in tall timber buildings.
