The Architectural Engineering Design Competition was created to introduce engineering and architectural students to the conceptual design development of a structure.  The exercise is intended to simulate day-to-day activities of a practicing engineer and architect, working together to find a solution which is highly functional yet expressive in nature.

The 2012 AEDC asks students to design a semi-permanent covered stage that can be used for a sustained amount of time, before being packed up and transported to a new location. Integrating engineering and architectural design, the winning team will propose a design for a stage that emphasizes aesthetics, form, and function, while also considering constructability, economics, durability, and sustainability.

Fast + Epp would particularly like to thank Darryl Condon of Hughes Condon Marler Architects for his architectural input in determining this year's winning submissions.
